Countdown to Camp: New Details Revealed about eSports, Podcasting, Production Camps

Campers enjoy performing an experiment at Chaminade’s Science Camp several summers ago.

After the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into countless plans last year, the anticipation for the Summer of 2021 grows more palpable each day. As the temperatures continue to rise and the sun shines ever brighter, thoughts begin to wander to memories of summertimes past – artifacts from an era when the only mask to consider was of the scuba variety.

The planning of such solstice activities has kicked into high gear as state-mandated pandemic-related restrictions continue to be further relaxed; as a result, registration for Chaminade’s academic summer camps is on the rise.

Simultaneously, details about several popular camps have begun to emerge, including:

1.) Video game titles for the new eSports Camp are starting to be revealed. These include Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, both popular among the current student body.

“It’s a cool game,” said Eamon Cullinan ’24, who has been playing the Smash Bros. franchise for several years. “I really enjoy playing with my friends, and it’s cool that Chaminade will offer it.”

One of his classmates, Peter Leavy ’24, concurred: “Rocket League is really fun to play with my friends, and anyone who is interested in video games will have a great time.”

The remaining space in this new, popular camp is dwindling, so those interested in registering should do so as soon as possible.

2.) The first session of the Bloomberg Business Camp is now sold out. Titled “Introduction to Money, Economics, and Finance,” this camp will run with a packed house from June 28 through July 2.

Those interested in learning more about the world of finance can still register for the remaining sessions:

  • Session 2: July 5 – July 9: “Equity and Fixed Income Markets”
  • Session 3: July 12 – July 16: “Financial Literacy”
  • Session 4: July 19 – July 23: “Entrepreneurship/Shark Tank”

3.) Both the Podcasting and Video Production Camps are now open to all ninth and tenth graders.

New podcasts continue to be posted to the Project Palladium feed. Those interested in ‘casting should check out this summer’s Podcasting Camp for a crash course in communicating.

4.) Spots in this summer’s Science Camp continue to fill, as campers are excited to return to Chaminade’s Dolan Family Science, Technology and Research Center.

Known as one of the most fun and popular summer programs, the Science Camp introduces attendees to various endeavors which often develop into passions in high school.
