Chaminade Varsity Soccer ended its incredible season with a dominant victory in the CHSAA state championship game on Sunday, November 15. Hoping to watch Chaminade win its first state championship in half a decade, fans packed into the bleachers at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John’s University. The fans got what they wished and witnessed one of the most memorable matches in the history of the Chaminade soccer program.
Chaminade’s varsity soccer team faced Archbishop Molloy on Friday, November 13 for a spot in the CHSAA title game against Canisius High School. The Flyers entered the postseason with the intent of playing in the state championship game for the first time in five years; however, in order to do so, they had to defeat a formidable Molloy squad that amassed a record of 12-1-5 over the course of the 2015 season.
Varsity soccer Flyers fought their way to a NSCHSAA title in a grueling match against St. Anthony’s. The Flyers came out on top in a 1-0 game.
Hearing the announcer mention the “speeding yellow boat from CHA-MIN-ADE,” the crew came together and sped along the banks of the Schuylkill. Fighting for every stroke, they finished second with a time of 13:48.
The Flyers definitely should be happy with the way they played this season as they finished the season with a 5-5-2 record and competed at a high level all season. The Flyers now have time to reflect on their season and prepare for next year.
