Fighting Boredom with Board Games

The Rise of Game Club

Lucas Kierez ’26

Over the years, Chaminade High School has introduced many after-school activities, each leaving its mark on the school’s history. Now, a new club may soon join the ranks: “Game Club.” The concept of “Game Club” evolved from “Game Night”, which began this year. For Game Club, on every other Thursday, students gathered to unplug and enjoy various board games, card games, and role-playing games (RPGs) such as Monopoly, UNO, and “Magic: The Gathering.” Although I only participated once, I can attest that it truly was a fantastic experience.

This initiative was brought to life by teacher Mr. Jake Pisani ’12, who envisioned an activity where students and staff could simply hang out and engage with their peers on a low-key level. His motivation was to create an experience for students who don’t always share the same interests as their peers, providing an opportunity for students to connect with others who have similar interests.

With this premise in mind, I believe “Game Night” has been a success so far and Mr. Pisani agrees, which is why he aims and hopes to establish it as an official club rather than an occasional event in the future. Over the course of the Game Nights, the events encouraged creative thinking, fostered engagement, and promoted inclusivity to all students at Chaminade High School.

The potential of “Game Club” is immense. By becoming an official club, it will provide a consistent and inclusive space for students to explore their interests, develop new friendships, and engage in a variety of games. This initiative not only brings joy and excitement to participants but also cultivates a sense of community within the school. With the continued support of Mr. Pisani, and the enthusiastic participation of students, “Game Club” promises to be a lasting and impactful addition to Chaminade High School’s array of activities.
