Sophomore Evening of Recollection
On Wednesday January 24, 2024, over 100 members of the Class of 2026 gathered at the Activity-Athletic Center to attend Encounter, a sophomore evening of recollection. Over the course of two hours, students played dodgeball, spent time in prayer, and enjoyed a class dinner. Students formed their own alliances in hope of winning the round-robin dodgeball tournament. The games were officiated by upperclassmen, who often took part in the games as well. Teachers also participated in the dodgeball games, which further nurtured the sense of community. After dodgeball, all of the sophomores gathered in Hearst Auditorium for Eucharistic Adoration, led by Fr. Peter Heiskell, S.M.’86. During adoration, Mr. Michael Griffin shared his experience of when he encountered Jesus Christ during the time his aunt was very sick. Mr. Griffin recalled how his uncle looked at his wife so lovingly, just like how God, our loving parent, views all of us with the utmost affection. Students then had the opportunity to pray quietly for their own intentions. The message of the day was to encounter Christ through one’s own actions and the interactions with other people. Following the repose of the Blessed Sacrament, the members of the Class of 2026 ate dinner, which was provided by Lessing’s Food Management. Not only did the members of the sophomore class encounter Christ through Adoration, but they also found Christ through activities that fostered a sense of companionship and brotherhood.
