New Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Daniel Duffy ’97

By Ryan Breen ’26

Mr. Daniel Duffy ’97 is the newest addition to Chaminade’s Science Department. Mr. Duffy teaches Honors Biology 9 and is the assistant moderator of the Medical Club. He was born in Long Beach and graduated Chaminade High School in 1997. His love and talent for teaching actually began in his teenage years, during his time in karate. Growing up, Mr. Duffy was a skilled martial artist, even working his way up to a black belt. Not only did Mr. Duffy improve himself, but he took time out to help his peers and newcomers improve as well. This experience in karate is where Mr. Duffy first realized his passion for teaching.

Upon graduating Chaminade, Mr. Duffy was unsure of what he wanted to do. He attended the University of Notre Dame where majored in Business. However, he would have a change of heart, and instead choose to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in biology. After a short period as the merchandising manager of a Costco, he would pursue a doctorate in Pharmacy from the Albany College of Pharmacy of Union University. He then worked as a pharmacist for over 14 years. During his time as a pharmacist, Mr. Duffy met with his patients and explained how to use certain medications. This is what reignited his old passion for teaching. He obtained an Advanced Certificate in Secondary Education from Hofstra University and student-taught at Long Beach High School. Mr. Duffy stated that he had many options but always knew that Chaminade was where he wanted to be. He “loves the people at Chaminade” because “they’re all hard workers at heart and are very respectful individuals.” As much as he loves teaching in the classroom, his passion is in the state of the art biology lab in STRC. “There’s just somethings that need to be taught hands on, and I can do that in the STRC.” Mr. Duffy expands on this love and experience by co-moderating the medical club with Dr. Viscusi. He plans to bring his real world experience in pharmacokinetics into the Chaminade, helping those who may want to pursue a career in it.  Overall, Mr. Duffy is very excited to be teaching here at Chaminade, saying he has “rejoined a family” where he can continue his passion of teaching people and helping others.
