
Baseball—Varsity had a successful spring, finishing the regular season in 2nd place with a league record of 12-5. The team went 7-5 in the division and 5-0 against schools from Brooklyn-Queens. In the playoffs, the team defeated St. Dominic’s High School 1-0 and Holy Trinity High School 18-7 to advance to the finals. The squad had six All-League selections, with Thomas Chanis ’23 as MIP and Evan Baschnagel ’23 as MVP.
Crew—Throughout the regular season, the team had hard-fought races against some of the top crews in the country. The hard work paid off at the New York State Championship where five boats won medals, including a gold medal in the freshman event. The team’s performance at States earned the squad four entries into the SRAA National Championship regatta.
Golf—The varsity golf team finished with an overall record of 9-1, earning the title of regular season co-champions with St. Anthony’s High School. In the league championships, the Flyers came out with the team victory, beating the Friars by eight total strokes. Captain Michael McConie ’23 won the individual by golfing one over par, for a total of 73. The Flyers sent six golfers to the Catholic State Championship.
Lacrosse—The varsity team completed a successful 2023 season, finishing with a 10-4 record. The season included a 6-game winning streak. During the streak, the Flyers had a dominant 17-7 win over Darien High School, marking Coach Jack Moran’s 600th career win. The season ended with an exciting victory over Manhasset High School 10-9, allowing the Flyers to bring home the “Regs Rock” trophy.
Rugby—Spring 2023 marked rugby’s arrival at Chaminade High School. There was an average practice attendance of 65 athletes per day, where players learned the basics of rugby and were met with rigorous fitness and conditioning. The Flyers played four matches this season, including a win over St. Anthony’s in the inaugural match. The team closed the season with a 2-2 record.
Tennis—The Varsity A tennis team went undefeated in league play, finishing with a 9-0 record. The perfect season concluded by defeating St. Anthony’s in the championship match with a score of 4-3. This is the third year in a row that the team has won the championship.
Track—Highlights from the varsity season include a 7th place finish at the Penn Relays in the Distance Medley Championship of America, a runner-up team finish at the NSCHSAA League Championship, and a 3rd place finish at the CHSAA Intersectional Championship. Several athletes qualified for the national championships at the end of June.
Volleyball—Congratulations to the 2023 varsity volleyball team for another exceptional season, with a 10-0 record. The team earned a bye in the quarter finals and then defeated St. Anthony’s in a three-set sweep. This set up a rematch of last year’s championship match against St. John the Baptist High School. It took four sets, but Chaminade was victorious and became champions for the third consecutive year. The League MVP was awarded to co-captain Anthony Bellone ’23 and the championship MVP was given to Luke Mauro ’23.
