The Chaminade varsity football team had a huge victory over the Kellenberg Firebirds on Saturday, October 12 at Mitchel Field. It was a very competitive match—one that the Flyers won by a score of 28-26. After coming out of the first half with a one-point lead, the Flyers maintained their resilient effort, coming out on top by two. Chaminade was well-represented, as Chaminade students and fans filled up stands behind the Chaminade bench at what was Kellenberg’s homecoming game.

Defensively, Aidan Cappelino ‘20, Brandan Coward ‘20, and Robert Booth ‘20 led the team, combining for an impressive total of 40 tackles—successfully neutralizing the Firebirds’ high-powered offense. It was a monumental victory against a Kellenberg team that has been gaining momentum since last season.

Aidan Cappelino remarked, “It was an extremely physical game, and we played hard on both sides of the ball. It’s been awesome to be able to take first place together after four years as a team.”

Congratulations to the varsity Flyers on a big win!

Chaminade’s varsity soccer team now has a league record of 7-1-1, and an overall record of 10-4-3. On October 19, Chaminade will play St. Benedict’s Prep, and look to maintain the pattern of success they’ve established this season.
