Home from a Most Magical Trip
On Sunday, the senior class returned from a four-day trip to Disney World. The fast-paced, fun-packed trip kicked off well before the sun rose last Thursday morning as seniors made their way to Chaminade and then to JFK airport for early-morning flights. The early departure allowed seniors to have a full day at Disney’s four parks. The day concluded with a class dinner, exclusive access to Soarin’, then a viewing of the Illuminations fireworks show from a private balcony at Epcot. On Friday, seniors headed to Universal Studios for a thrilling day on all the rides between the two parks there. Finally, the class spent Saturday at Disney parks once more and finished the day with Mass then a night out for dinner at any of the Disney venues. Watch the video highlighting their trip here.
Dance China NY Visits Chaminade
To celebrate Chaminade’s Foreign Languages Week, students experienced the culture, costumes, and music of China during a narrated assembly program on Wednesday, March 27 that featured professional performers from Dance China NY and the New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC). The performance introduced students to a Lion Dance and acrobatics, while also providing the opportunity for participants to try plate spinning and ribbon techniques. “It’s important for our students to learn about the history and cultures of the languages they study,” explained Mrs. Alanna Kump, chair of Chaminade’s Foreign Languages Department. “The people of our world are growing increasingly interconnected, and we have a responsibility to foster an appreciation of customs that identify us and expressions that bring us together.” A video featuring a segment of Dance China’s performance can be found here.
Senior Prayer Service
The seniors prepared for their graduation from Chaminade during a prayer service last Wednesday at which students received their Spiritual Survival Kit. The kit includes Rosary beads and a statue of Mary. Bro. Steven Balletta, S.M. ‘74 addressed the seniors, reminding them to seek out help from others in good times and in bad times throughout their college career. Mr. Matthew Chicavich ‘98 and Mr. Michael Dolce ‘99 also spoke to the class about the next steps of their faith for the next four years.
