Swimming, Running, and Grappling Towards League Championships
This weekend, the varsity swimming & diving team will compete for their third consecutive CHSAA league title at the CHSAA City Championship meet. The divers will compete tonight at Fordham University, and swimmers will have trials on Saturday and finals on Sunday, both of which are at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park. The Flyers expect strong competition from St. Anthony’s and Fordham Prep. Additionally, the winter track & field team, after an impressive performance last weekend, will compete at the NYSCHSAA Varsity Championships tomorrow on Staten Island. Finally, the varsity wrestling team will conclude the weekend by competing in the qualifying tournament in the CHSAA league.
First Report Cards of the New Year
Students will receive the first indication of their academic progress this trimester when the second trimester progress reports are released tomorrow morning. The letter-grade reports can be accessed through the parent portal. Next Wednesday at 7 P.M., teachers will host parent-student-teacher interviews to discuss students’ academic performance.
CAPA Night
Tomorrow evening at 4:30 P.M., the Chaminade Alumni Parents Association (CAPA) will host an Evening of Jazz in Darby Auditorium. Both the Chaminade High School Jazz Band and Vocal Chamber Ensemble will provide the entertainment for what promises to be an enjoyable evening. This event is one of many that CAPA hosts throughout the school year. The social group actively works to keep members of the Chaminade Family in contact after their sons and grandsons have graduated.

Adelphi Press Day
This past Wednesday, members of Tarmac traveled to Adelphi University for Press Day 2019, a gathering of high school journalists from across Long Island. The day began with a round-table discussion by various types of professional journalists. Afterwards, the staffs of the high-school newspapers moved to the many break-out sessions to discuss the challenges facing the journalism and media industries. Lunch and the presentation of awards concluded the event. Congratulations to Tarmac for earning 3rd place in the Best Overall Newspaper category and to William Birkdale ’19 for winning the Best Layout award!
Beyond the Gates: Senior Day Retreat
Today, senior religion classes walked to the Saragossa retreat house for the retreat program Beyond the Gates. During this experience, seniors are taught about handling opposition to their faith when they leave Chaminade.. For many, the day provides the much-needed time to focus on their spirituality and relationship with God. For more information on the retreat, check out this article.
Hockey and Bowling Teams Pursue Continued Success
The Flyers’ varsity hockey team defeated Fordham Prep on Wednesday by a score of 4-2. The game was the first of a three-game series in the semi-final round of the playoffs, with game two set for Saturday evening at 8:50 P.M. Meanwhile, on the lanes, the bowling team celebrated its eighth-consecutive Catholic League title after beating St. John the Baptist in the championship game by a score of 3,879-3,354.
