Friday Night Sports Preview

Tonight, the freshman, JV, and varsity basketball teams will take on Saint John the Baptist at 4 PM, 5:45 PM, and 7:30 PM, respectively. At Cantiague Park Ice Rink, the JV hockey team will play against St. Peter’s. Varsity hockey will play Monsignor Farrell afterwards at 7:30 PM. Additionally, the winter track and field team will take part in the NYU Invite at Armory Track in New York City. Good luck Flyers!

Keep on Speaking!

This Thursday, the speech and debate team will attend an afternoon tournament at HAFTR in Cedarhurst. Debaters will seek to earn their half-qualifications for the NYSFL State Championship Tournament in the spring. Over the February break, the Flyers will attend the Harvard Tournament and the New York City District Tournament, as national tournaments are on the horizon.

RESTLESS

On Thursday, February 7 at 5 PM, members of the freshman class will take part in RESTLESS, an evening of recollection. The annual event  in the Activity-Athletic Center will give students a break from the challenges of coursework. The class of 2022 will enjoy various athletic events, such as dodgeball and European handball, with their homerooms and hear talks from members of the Chaminade faculty. The event will serve as an important night for the freshmen to foster relationships with one another and with God.

Annual Founders Dinner

At the annual Founder Dinner on Thursday, January 31, members of the Chaminade family presented the Founders Award to Mr. Robert Casella, Mrs. Lourdes Mendez, and Bro. Richard Hartz, S.M. ’59. These three individuals have perfectly exemplified the school’s mission, and their dedication to the advancement of Chaminade High School as been inspiring.

Pilgrims Return from World Youth Day

This past Monday night, pilgrims from Chaminade High School returned from their trip to World Youth Day, a gathering of 113,000 members of the global Church. During the trip, the Flyers had the opportunity to tour the Panama Canal, celebrate Mass with Pope Francis, and listen to a talk from Bishop Robert Barron, among many other inspiring adventures. Larry Shammas ’19 exclaimed, “This pilgrimage was both incredibly uplifting as well as spiritually refreshing for someone like me.” The next World Youth Day will take place in Lisbon, Portugal.

Winter Track Team Success at Championship Meet

Last weekend, the Varsity Track and Field team competed in the NSCHSAA Varsity League Championship Meet at St. Anthony’s. The team took a close second behind St. Anthony’s, but was proud to have put forth a strong effort in many events. Some of the top performances in the championships came from Shane Walsh ’19, Matthew Lally ’19, and Ryan Muccini ’19.
