Weekend Sports Preview
Tonight, all divisions of the basketball team will face St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay. At Cantiague Park Ice Rink, JV hockey will play Fordham Prep at 5:45 P.M. On Saturday, the winter track and field team will participate in the Stanner Games at Armory Track in New York City. Then, the varsity and JV wrestling teams will compete in the Eastern States Classic Varsity Wrestling Tournament at SUNY Sullivan at 10:00 A.M. Good luck, Flyers!
World Youth Day
Next Thursday and Friday, a large number of students from the Class of 2019 as well as students from Kellenberg High School will take off to attend World Youth Day 2019 in Panama City. The pilgrimage itinerary includes touring the Panama Canal and Gamboa Rainforest as well as attending many events celebrating our faith. World Youth Day activities will begin the following week, with several gatherings featuring Pope Francis.
Catholics for Life: March for Life in Washington, D.C.
Next Friday, members of Catholics for Life will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the annual March for Life. Bro. Lawrence Syriac, S.M. explains how the trip allows students to make their faith tangible, saying, “We go to this march every year as a pilgrimage. All who attended give witness to the sacredness of life.” The students march together with over 100,000 other pro-life activists past the Supreme Court and the Capitol.

Welcome to Chaminade!
On Wednesday, January 9, future members of the Class of 2023 received notifications of acceptance at 3:00 P.M. Tomorrow, Chaminade will hold an open house for these accepted candidates. After experiencing Chaminade once more, accepted candidates will have the opportunity to register for the Class of 2023 on Tuesday, January 15 or Wednesday, January 16 from 3:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
72nd Annual Chaminade Invitational Speech Tournament
This past Saturday, Chaminade hosted the 72nd Annual Chaminade Invitational Speech Tournament. Many members of Chaminade’s team gavel notable performances. In varsity extemporaneous speaking, Kristijan Barnjak ‘19 earned 13th place. In Program of Oral Interpretation, Paul Caruso ‘20 captured 7th place. In junior varsity extemporaneous speaking, James Cullen ‘22 achieved 14th place, Harry Cherpelis ‘22 earned 13th place, and Michael Bellia ‘21 placed 2nd. In declamation, Michael Santos ‘21 received 14th, and John Cervantes ‘21 received 8th place. In Student Congress, Andreas Pantazakos ‘19 garnered 25th place, Joshua Muroff ‘19 captured 16th place, and Jack Viscuso ‘21 earned 11th place. During the presentation of awards, Bro. John McGrory, S.M. ‘84 unveiled the Bro. George Zehnle, S.M. Memorial Trophy, and all those in attendance observed a moment of silence for Bro. George, the former moderator of Chaminade’s Speech and Debate Team who, for many decades, coached his students to countless championships.
Varsity Basketball Update
Recently, the varsity basketball team added onto a strong record this season of 7-2 by defeating St. Anthony’s High School 55-40. This Sunday, the varsity basketball team will play in the Tip of the Hat Tournament against Lawrence Woodmere Academy at Adelphi University at 12:30 PM.
