Gold Star Mass

Next Thursday, students, faculty, and alumni will gather in honor of our fallen troops at the 74th annual Gold Star Mass.

As always, the names of each Gold Star alumnus, displayed in portraits hung around the Activity-Athletic Center, will be read during the service to commend their life of dedication and service.

Alumni from the Class of 1968 will also attend, celebrating their 50th reunion this weekend. Following the mass, military alumni and guests will gather for brunch.

 

Columbus Day Weekend

Chaminade High School will be closed on Monday, October 8th in honor of Christopher Columbus Day. Students and faculty will enjoy a three-day weekend, a perfect opportunity to catch up on school work and relax.

Internet Safety and Bullying Presentation

On Tuesday, October 9th, freshmen and sophomores will learn about the importance of using the internet responsibly and safely. The presentation will discuss how to report bullying, how to avoid getting caught up in such harmful activities, and how to be aware of one’s digital footprint. This presentation will supplement students’ digital citizenship course in Academic Enrichment, a significant component of Chaminade’s curriculum. Parents will also get the opportunity to see this internet safety presentation in the evening.

Student Musicians Selected for All-State Conference

Seniors Sean Murphy and Samuel Taylor will return to the All-State Music Conference for their second time. They will be joined by seven other seniors and two juniors chosen as participants for the New York State School Music Association All-State Music Conference.

The conference will occur from November 29 to December 2 at the Rochester Convention Center.

Flyers’ Soccer Teams Soundly Defeat St. John the Baptist

While the Flyers fell short to the St. Anthony Friars on Tuesday, the Flyer soccer players were able to rebound with both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams securing victories over St. John the Baptist on Thursday afternoon.

The JV team pulled off a 3-1 win, with Ronnie Marciano ’21 scoring two goals.

The varsity team won 4-0, with two goals by Benjamin Szemerenyi ’19 and goals by Jonathan Veletenga ‘19 and Sean O’Connor ‘19. Building off of this momentum, the team will travel to New Jersey this weekend to face Don Bosco High School.

ADORE Retreats Begin

The freshman ADORE retreat program began this past Monday with Homeroom 1A. Freshmen had the opportunity to experience the Saragossa Retreat House and begin the first step of their spiritual journey at Chaminade. The retreat attempts to introduce the freshmen to aspects of the Christian faith while strengthening their bonds with classmates and God.
