3 Up, 3 Down: January 19 Edition

By Thomas Daly

3 Up:

1) Ball Don’t Lie…

Fans of the varsity basketball team are already looking forward to the cagers’ matchup against St. Anthony’s next Tuesday (January 23) in the AAC. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for last Friday (January 12) but was postponed after the recent snowstorm. The team has been on an impressive win streak of late, so this is sure to be an exciting matchup.

2) Our Founding Father

In celebration of the life of the founder of the Marianists, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, our school will be closed next Friday (January 26). The day before (January 25), the student body will gather in the AAC to celebrate Mass in Blessed Chaminade’s memory. Enjoy the extra sleep next weekend, but make sure to keep Blessed William Joseph Chaminade in your thoughts and prayers throughout!

3) Grappling with Success

Both the varsity and JV wrestling teams have been performing well throughout their seasons thus far. After a sizable win against Holy Trinity this past Wednesday (January 17), the teams look to continue their high level of performance against Kellenberg next Wednesday (January 24) in the AAC at 4:30 p.m.

3  Down:

1) Strike Force

In its usual fashion, the varsity bowling team has maintained a spotless 11-0 record in regular season play up to this point. One notable result came in their performance against St. Mary’s this past Tuesday (January 16). The team won almost every set at the AMF Sheridan Lanes and looks to continue its success against St. John the Baptist next Tuesday (January 23) at the AMF Babylon Lanes. Roll Flyers!

2) You Got Mail!

Yesterday (January 18) at 3:00 p.m. was a special time for many eighth graders. Chaminade emailed its acceptance letters to hundreds of students hoping to gain entry into the Chaminade family. Congratulations to all those students who received good news, and we look forward to seeing you at the Open House for Accepted Students next Saturday (January 27)!

3) Different Strokes

The varsity swimming and diving team faced a talented opponent in Xavier High School this past Wednesday (January 17). Coming off of a tough loss the previous Wednesday, the Flyers were ready to distinguish themselves as the defending league champs. With many swimmers under the weather, the team still raced extremely well, advancing their record to 6-1. The Flyers face off against rival Fordham Prep next Thursday (January 25) to close out their regular season.
