Cold weather does not make for an easy track meet, but the Flyers were up for the challenge.  On Saturday, April 9, Chaminade’s track and field team traveled to Mt. Sinai High School to compete with many tough opponents at the annual Suffolk Officials Meet.

The Flyers were determined to get off on the right foot Saturday morning, and they had some great performances in several events.  Notable performers include Tochukwu Okonkwo ’17, who placed 9th in the 100-meter dash Open Final; James Moran ’18, who placed 7th in the 800-meter Run Finals; and Cameron Sherry ’17, who placed 7th in the 800-meter Run Open Finals.

In addition to these impressive performances, many other Flyers followed suit and achieved top-10 finishes.  Quality performances were delivered by Matthew Eaton ’18, who finished in 6th place in the 1,600-meter Run Finals; John Rogers ’16, who placed 6th in the 1,600-meter Run Open Finals; Patrick Simons ’16, who placed a fantastic 3rd in the Pole Vault Open Finals; and Emilio Miret ’16, who placed 9th in the Shot Put Open Finals.

The Flyers have achieved success, but the team knows that they have plenty of time to continue to improve.  As Patrick Conklin ’18 noted, “We are always looking to improve as a team and to prepare ourselves for more races to come.”
