The Flyer’s Freshman Basketball team faced off against the St. Anthony’s Friars in the JV B Championship game on February 14.

Shortly after the tip-off, the Friars began the scoring and held the lead one minute into action. A few possessions later, the Flyers came down the court and Daniel Crawley ’19 confidently knocked down a three-point shot. Due to the importance of the game, the teams played with extreme intensity and physicality, leading to early fouls and trips to the charity stripe.
At the end of the first quarter, St. Anthony’s was up 10-5, making it a tight, defensive match. During the second quarter, the pace of the game quickened, and there was a plethora of excitement and points by both teams. However, St. Anthony’s still dominated at the conclusion of the first half by a score by 13 points.

Throughout the second half of the game, the Flyers fought hard, but St. Anthony’s would not let its opposition threaten its lead. Mario Ferrara ’19 played extraordinarily well for the Flyers during the whole game, creating many opportunities for points and showing off his versatile scoring ability.
Unfortunately, the championship wrapped up with a score of 59-44, with St. Anthony’s on top. The Flyers played a well-fought game, and are looking forward to the JV season. Peter Baron ’19 commented, “We played hard all year, but had a tough close to the season. Every minute of the work definitely was worth it.”
