From mid-September to mid-November, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Chaminade High School welcomes college representatives who may evaluate an aspiring student’s application. At these meetings, the representatives advertise the benefits of the college they represent, and allow students to learn more about a potential home for themselves to grow in knowledge.
Month: October 2015
Varsity football played their last home game of the season on Saturday, October 24.
Tensions ran high as the Chaminade Flyers matched up against a formidable St. Anthony’s squad on Thursday, October 22. When Chaminade played St. Anthony’s earlier in the season, the teams tied, and both teams were seeking victory in their last game of the regular season.
The varsity soccer team continued their winning ways on Tuesday, October 20, when the team fought the St. Dominic Bayhawks. This game was not just another league game; it marked the 2015 Senior Game, a time-honored tradition for the oldest members of both squads to reflect on a terrific four years as student athletes.
On Sunday, October 18, the Vocal Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Ms. Viktoria Khokhlova, traveled into the heart of New York City to perform at one of its most famed musical venues, Carnegie Hall.
On October 15, 2015, Thomas Miloscia, a graduate of the class of 2015, passed away following his extended battle with cancer. He was laid to rest yesterday, October 22, after a funeral Mass at Sts. Philip and James Church in St. James, NY. Thomas’s friend and classmate, Tobias Hoonhout ’15, prepared and delivered the following eulogy at yesterday’s Mass. May those members of the class of 2015 who were unable to attend yesterday’s Mass – as well as the rest of the Chaminade Family – find comfort in Toby’s words as we remember our friend and brother Thomas. May he rest in peace.
On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, the sophomores ditched their backpacks and books and replaced them with dodge balls and frisbees for the second annual Sophomore Spirit Day.
The Chaminade Flyers recently sprang into action to help men all over Long Island who are in need of traditional business attire. Under the moderation of Mr. Salvatore Garofalo ’08, Sophomore GSO teamed with up the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to collect over 50 baskets, which translated into 30 full bags, of gently used suit jackets, blazers, shirts, ties, pants, belts, and shoes. From Thursday, October 8 to Wednesday, October 14, students delivered their donations to the Darby Auditorium lobby before the beginning of homeroom.
Chaminade High School’s incredibly talented string orchestra had a unique opportunity on Friday, October 9. During a morning assembly, Chaminade’s string orchestra met with fellow musicians from the University of Dayton Orchestra in Darby Auditorium. There was not much time for extended greetings as the two groups performed a short concert together for Chaminade’s freshman and senior classes.
